How Andre Gets an “Active” Patient Count in Eaglesoft
I’ll start with:
What is an “Active” Patient? In my opinion, it’s a Patient with a Scheduled Appointment. If they are not scheduled they are not in a “active” cycle. Someone in a tracksuit standing on the sidelines is not in the race.
One of the best reports to start with in Eaglesoft is the Patient Analysis Report (PAR). It’s the first report I run when I do Eaglesoft Training. Take a look at the upper right of the report. You’ll see # of Active Seen in Last 12 Months.
This will give you a count of the number of individual patients you have posted Service Codes in Walkouts during the last 12 month and “should” reflect the number of patients who have been “actively” being treated in the last 12 months. But there could be false information lurking in that number.
If Bob walked in and bought an electric Toothbrush head but had no other treatment in the last 12 months and the office did a Walkout for an in-office made up Service Code for a “Sonicare Toothbrush head 2-pack”, Bob counts in the “Patients seen” numbers.
This gets compounded when practices walkout the ADA codes for Failed and Cancelled appointments instead of using the “proper” deleting Appointments process. Each time that happens, the same result muddies the “Patients Seen” numbers.
The database in Eaglesoft defines “Active” as a Patient who has the "Active" box checked in their Patient Preferences. That’s it.
